    Date: Sunday 16th July 2017

The conditions couldn't have been any better for this years' championship, however the scoring was considerably high as the competitors had to cope with the Sunday pin locations and quick greens!

There were only seven scores in the 70s after the morning round, with Russell Hayhoe, Max Bromley and James Surtees on the leading score of 76. The other four being within 3 shots of the lead meant everything was to play for in the afternoon round.

There was some much better golf played by the field in the afternoon round, with Steven Clayton and Alan Gerrett both playing under their handicap contesting for the Roger McMahon Salver early on.

As the final groups came in it looked like Max Bromley, with excellent scores of 76, 75, was going to take the honours with a two putt birdie on the last. However reigning champion Russell Hayhoe made a fantastic up and down from the left side of the 18th green to finish with an afternoon round of 74 to win the Halliwell Trophy and win the 2017 Club Championship!

This years' title makes it the seventh time Russell has won the championship, a record that continues to grow at Ponteland! Max did not leave empty handed though. Finishing second he also had the best nett over the 36 holes and he received the Roger McMahon Salver.

Many thank yous were made for the support of the day, the green staff had the greens and course in immaculate condition, Alan Marriner, the caterers and bar staff for feeding and watering the players at half time and after the rounds were completed, and Richard Robson-Crosby for the organisation and running of the event.

Congratulations once again to all the winners and many thanks to all that played in this years' championship. We hope that everyone that took part enjoyed the occasion and we hope to see everyone back competing next year!
